Women have taken active roles in movements throughout history but are often left out of the traditional narrative. During this four-day educator institute, we will explore women's activism and involvement in various movements throughout modern United States history. And, the timing is fitting. The 99th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment, which granted women the right to vote, is this August.
What to Expect
Educators will hear lectures and have conversations with leading experts in the field. Topics to be covered include litigation around social movements with Vanderbilt University Professor Dr. Holly J. McCammon, and feminist social movements, the 1950s to present, with a focus on the response to white feminism by women of color with University of Texas at Austin Professor Dr. Nicole Guidotti-Hern谩ndez.
It is our hope that educators will be able to share a more inclusive story of women's roles in movements in their classrooms.
More speakers and institute details to be released soon.
