Orestes Augustus BrownsonÌý(1803 –1876) was aÌýNew EnglandÌýintellectualÌýand activist, preacher, labor organizer, and noted Catholic convert and writer. Brownson was affiliated with the New EnglandÌýTranscendentalists.ÌýIn 1836, the same year thatÌýRalph Waldo Emerson'sÌýNatureÌýwas published, hr participated in the founding of theÌýTranscendental Club. Correspondence and manuscript drafts (1823–75) of the prominent author, critic, editor, philosopher, radical, and convert to Catholicism. Correspondents include Lord Acton, John C. Calhoun, Ralph Waldo Emerson, William H. Seward, Charles Sumner, and Henry David Thoreau.
