Robert Wilkinson Furnas (1824Ìý–1905) was the second Governor of Nebraska. He worked as a farmer, printer, insurance salesman and postmaster. Furnas came to Nebraska in 1856 at the age of thirty-two and settled inÌýBrownville, Nebraska. Two months later he published theÌýNebraska Advertiser, a publication advertising the agricultural opportunities found in Nebraska. He also published theÌýNebraska Farmer, the first agricultural publication out of Nebraska that is still published to this day. This edition includes correspondence and other papers of the Civil War colonel, Indian agent, and Republican governor of Nebraska.
