An oilman and inventor, Samuel Milton Jones (1846 鈥�1904) served as a Progressive Era Mayor of Toledo, Ohio from 1897 to 1904. Known as 鈥淕olden Rule鈥� Jones, he was an influential advocate of municipal reform and oversaw implementation of a series of humane modifications including free听kindergartens, a park system, playgrounds听for children, free public baths, an听eight-hour day听for city workers, and other reforms.
