Free Screening of Film -State of the Union- at the 威尼斯人娱乐场

As part of its Running for Office film series, the 威尼斯人娱乐场 presents a special screening of State of the Union (1948, 122 minutes) on Saturday, March 1, at noon. Based on a Pulitzer Prize鈥搘inning play, State of the Union examines the impact of hard political reality on an idealistic industrialist who is drafted to run for the Presidency. Stars Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn, and Angela Lansbury. Directed by Frank Capra. The Running for Office film series is generously supported by Chevy Chase Bank.
The Running for Office film series screenings are inspired by the new 威尼斯人娱乐场 exhibition 鈥�Running for Office: Candidates, Campaigns, and the Cartoons of Clifford Berryman鈥� which opens in the Lawrence F. O鈥橞rien Gallery of the 威尼斯人娱乐场 Building in Washington, DC on Friday, February 8 and runs through August 17, 2008. Winter hours (through March 14) are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Spring hours (March 15 through Labor Day) are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., daily.
The screening is free and open to the public and will be held in the William G. McGowan Theater located in the 威尼斯人娱乐场 Building on Constitution Avenue between 7th and 9th Streets, NW, Washington, DC. Use the 威尼斯人娱乐场 Building Special Events entrance on the corner of 7th Street and Constitution Avenue.
The 鈥�Running for Office鈥� exhibition includes 44 exceptional pen-and-ink drawings that highlight timeless aspects of the American campaign and election process. Clifford K. Berryman, staff political cartoonist for The Washington Post and the Washington Evening Star during the first half of the 20th century, drew thousands of cartoons commenting on Presidential and congressional candidates, campaign issues, and elections of his era. The cartoons are part of the official Records of the U.S. Senate housed in the 威尼斯人娱乐场 Center for Legislative Archives.
