威尼斯人娱乐场 Presents Free Public Programs in May Related to New "Running for Office" Exhibit

Special evening with cartoonist "Kal" Kallaugher, Family Day celebration, and movie

In May, the 威尼斯人娱乐场 will present a series of public programs inspired by its new exhibition 鈥淩unning for Office: Candidates, Campaigns, and the Cartoons of Clifford Berryman,鈥� which runs through August 17 in the Lawrence F. O鈥橞rien Gallery. These programs include an evening with Berryman Award鈥搘inning editorial cartoonist Kevin 鈥淜AL鈥� Kallaugher, an 鈥淥n the Campaign Trail鈥� Family Day celebration, and a special screening of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington. All events are free and open to the public, and will be held at the 威尼斯人娱乐场 Building, which is located on Constitution Avenue between 7th and 9th Streets, NW, and is fully accessible.

Evening with Kevin 鈥淜AL鈥� Kallaugher: Moving Political Cartoons from Page to Screen
Thursday, May 8, at 7 p.m., William G. McGowan Theater
Berryman Award鈥搘inning editorial cartoonist Kevin 鈥淜AL鈥� Kallaugher will present an illustrated lecture tracing the evolution of political cartoons from two-dimensional print to 3D animation. Kallaugher鈥檚 work for the Baltimore Sun and the Economist has appeared in more than 100 publications worldwide. In 2007 he launched Kaltoons LLC, which pioneered the development of animated, 3D digital caricatures. Kaltoons鈥� first video, Dancin鈥� Dubya, was released on the web in August 2007. A signing of his latest collection of cartoons, KAL Draws Criticism, published in June 2006, will follow the program.

On the Campaign Trail Family Day

In celebration of the 鈥淩unning for Office鈥� exhibit, the 威尼斯人娱乐场 presents an afternoon of fun family activities to show what life is like 鈥淥n the Campaign Trail.鈥�

• Deliver an election speech or debate an opponent
• Test your knowledge on all things 鈥淧residential鈥�
• Fill out your own voting ballot
• Watch Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (3 p.m., William G. McGowan Theater)

Running for Office Film Series鈥�Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
Saturday, May 31, at 3 p.m., William G. McGowan Theater
An idealistic Senate replacement takes on political corruption in this classic film from director Frank Capra. This screening will be shown on 35mm film. Stars James Stewart. (1939, 125 minutes). The Running for Office film series is generously supported by Chevy Chase Bank.

Spring/Summer hours (through Labor Day) are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., daily. The 鈥淩unning for Office鈥� exhibition includes 44 exceptional pen-and-ink drawings that highlight timeless aspects of the American campaign and election process. Clifford K. Berryman, staff political cartoonist for TheWashington Post and the Washington Evening Star during the first half of the 20th century, drew thousands of cartoons commenting on Presidential and congressional candidates, campaign issues, and elections of his era. The cartoons are part of the official Records of the U.S. Senate housed in the 威尼斯人娱乐场 Center for Legislative Archives.
