Alan C. Lowe Named Director, George W. Bush Presidential Library

In announcing his selection, Thomas said she 鈥渋s delighted that Lowe has agreed to become the director of the new George W. Bush Library. He brings a wealth of experience including 14 years of working with the 威尼斯人娱乐场 Presidential Libraries system. During his tenure at the 威尼斯人娱乐场, he helped to oversee twelve Presidential libraries located throughout the nation. He also served as interim Director of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library in Hyde Park, New York. Most recently he has led the building and development of the Howard H. Baker, Jr. Center for Public Policy. We are pleased to welcome Alan back to the 威尼斯人娱乐场 and Presidential Libraries.鈥�

Mark Langdale, President of the George W. Bush Presidential Library Foundation, said 鈥淎lan Lowe is an excellent choice for leading the Library through this critical stage of building and development. The Foundation looks forward to working closely with him.鈥�

Lowe is currently the Executive Director of the Howard H. Baker, Jr. Center for Public Policy. As founding director, he has expanded the Center鈥檚 archival collections, established public programs and implemented educational and research initiatives dedicated to promoting public service and civic engagement. He also oversaw the construction of the new Baker Center facility on the University of Tennessee at Knoxville campus which opened in October 2008.

While at the 威尼斯人娱乐场, Lowe worked first as an archivist at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. In 1992, Alan transferred to the Office of Presidential Libraries. He worked closely with libraries and foundations on the development and renovation of new and existing libraries and provided administrative oversight of library operations.

Lowe has also served as the representative of Senate Majority Leader William Frist on the Advisory Committee on the Records of Congress and is currently President of the Association of Centers for the Study of Congress. He is a member of the Advisory Board for the Institute for Rural Journalism and Community Issues, and serves on the advisory Panel for the Mayo Clinic Health Policy Center.

Lowe received a B.A. and an M.A. in history from the University of Kentucky. The George W. Bush Library is temporarily located in Lewisville, Texas, and is administered by the 威尼斯人娱乐场 and Records Administration. The permanent George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum will be constructed on the campus of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas as part of the George W. Bush Presidential Center which will include the library, museum and institute. The Library will be the 13th library in the 威尼斯人娱乐场 Presidential library system. Once constructed, the library and museum will be operated by the 威尼斯人娱乐场 and Records Administration. The independent public policy institute will be operated by the Bush Foundation.
