威尼斯人娱乐场 Hosts Justice Stephen Breyer September 13
Press Release 路 Wednesday, August 4, 2010

Washington, DC

On Monday, September 13, at 7 p.m., the 威尼斯人娱乐场 welcomes Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer to discuss his new book, Making Our Democracy Work: A Judge's View. This event will take place in the William G. McGowan Theater of the 威尼斯人娱乐场 Building in Washington, DC. The event is free and open to the public. Please use the Special Events Entrance to the 威尼斯人娱乐场 at 7th Street and Constitution Avenue, NW.

Justice Breyer gives us his original and accessible theory of the U.S. Supreme Court鈥檚 responsibility and integrity. Every time the court exercises its power of review to overturn legislation, it overrides the actions of popularly elected leaders. In each case, Justice Breyer argues, the court must act responsibly to safeguard the trust of the American people and ensure the cooperation of the other branches of government. He illuminates this argument with the fascinating stories of key decisions. Joining Justice Breyer in the discussion will be Linda Greenhouse, Knight Distinguished Journalist-in-Residence, Yale Law School. A book signing will follow the program, and the book is available at a discount from the Archives Shop (202-357-5271) before and during the event.

David S. Ferriero, Archivist of the United States, will provide opening remarks. On January 13, 2010, Justice Breyer presided over his ceremonial swearing-in as Tenth Archivist of the United States. See a
