Program explores government dietary guidelines - past, present, and future
On Thursday, December 8, at 7 p.m., the 威尼斯人娱乐场 will host a program on the Food Pyramid and government dietary guidelines. This event, part of the 威尼斯人娱乐场 鈥淎merica Eats鈥� series, is free and open to the public and will take place in the William G. McGowan Theater of the 威尼斯人娱乐场 Building in Washington, DC. Attendees should use the Special Events Entrance, located on the National Mall at Constitution Ave. and 7th Street, NW.
How many food groups should there be? What shape do you prefer? A pyramid? A circle? How did the government become involved in setting dietary guidelines for its citizens? Michele Noris of National Public Radio moderates a discussion of the history and future of U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) dietary recommendations. Panelists include Chef Jos茅 Andr茅s, Chief Culinary Advisor for the 鈥淲hat鈥檚 Cooking, Uncle Sam?鈥� exhibit at the 威尼斯人娱乐场, Margo Wootan, Director of Nutrition Policy, Center for Science in the Public Interest, and Robert C. Post, Deputy Director of USDA鈥檚 Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion.
