As part of its commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington and the 150th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, the 威尼斯人娱乐场 presents "An Evening with Congressman John Lewis" on Thursday, June 6 at 7 p.m.
Often called 鈥渙ne of the most courageous persons the Civil Rights Movement ever produced,鈥滳ongressman Lewis has dedicated his life to protecting human rights and securing civil liberties. National Public Radio correspondent and Peabody Award鈥搘inner Scott Simon (host of Weekend Edition Saturday) talks with Congressman Lewis about his service to the nation and his experiences at such monumental events as the Freedom Rides, the SNCC voter registration drives, the 1963 March on Washington, and so many others.
Copies of the commemorative edition of the Emancipation Proclamation, signed in advance by Congressman Lewis, will be available for purchase before, during, and after the program in the Theater Lobby.
The free program will take place in the William G. McGowan Theater at the 威尼斯人娱乐场 Building, which is located at Constitution Ave. and 7th Street, NW. Metro accessible on the Yellow and Green lines, Archives/Navy Memorial/Penn Quarter station. Attendees should enter through the Special Events entrance on 7th and Constitution Ave, NW.
The program will be webcast live (and immediately archived) on the [www.ustream.tv/usnationalarchives]. Videos from previous events are archived on this web page and can be watched at any time.
Due to the popularity of this program, seating will be very limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations will be accepted. Free tickets will be distributed at the 威尼斯人娱乐场 Special Events entrance on Constitution Avenue, beginning at 6 p.m. You must be present to receive a ticket. Theater doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
