National Historical Publications and Records Commission Welcomes New Appointees

Four new appointments have been made to the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC), which carries out the grants program of the 威尼斯人娱乐场 to increase public access to America's historical records.

The four new appointees are:

  • Peter Gottlieb, former state archivist in Wisconsin and past president of the Society of American Archivists, representing the Society of American Archivists.
  • George Miles, curator of the Western Americana Collection at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, Yale University, representing the Organization of American Historians.
  • Nicole Saylor, Head of the American Folklife Center Archive at the Library of Congress, representing the Library of Congress.
  • William G. Thomas, John and Catherine Angle Chair in the Humanities and Professor of History, University of Nebraska, representing the American Historical Association.

The National Historical Publications and Records Commission, established by Congress in 1934, is a 15-member board chaired by the Archivist of the United States and composed of representatives from the three branches of the Federal government, two Presidential appointees, and representatives of professional associations of archivists, records administrators, historical documentary editors, and historians.

The NHPRC promotes the preservation and use of America's documentary heritage essential to understanding our democracy, history, and culture. Since 1964, the NHPRC has awarded $215 million to 5,000 projects in all 50 states and special jurisdictions to preserve historical records, including electronic records, to assist archives through a network of state partners, and to enhance public access through publishing finding aids and collections of historical records in print and digital formats.
