My Prairie Cookbook: Memories and Frontier Food from My Little House to Yours

On Saturday, September 13, at 2 PM, the ÍþÄá˹ÈËÓéÀÖ³¡ welcomes Melissa Gilbert for a special program about her new book, My Prairie Cookbook: Memories and Frontier Food from My Little House to Yours. This event is free and open to the public and will be held in the William G. McGowan Theater of the ÍþÄá˹ÈËÓéÀÖ³¡ Building in Washington, DC. Attendees should use the Special Events entrance, located on Constitution Avenue at 7th Street, NW. The building is fully accessible. Metro: Yellow or Green lines, Archives/Navy Memorial station.

In My Prairie Cookbook, Melissa Gilbert, star of Little House on the Prairie, offers fans comforting family recipes and childhood favorites. From prairie breakfasts and picnic lunches to treats inspired by Nellie’s restaurant, the 80 simple and delicious dishes—crispy fried chicken, pot roasts, cornbread, apple pie, and more—let you eat like the Ingalls family. Gilbert’s personal recollections and memorabilia, including behind-the-scenes stories, anecdotes, and treasured scrapbook images, accompany the recipes. A book signing follows the program.

Background – Little House in the Big Archives

The ÍþÄá˹ÈËÓéÀÖ³¡ holds the Homestead applications of Charles Ingalls and Almanzo Wilder. The ÍþÄá˹ÈËÓéÀÖ³¡ Hoover Presidential Library holds and her daughter, Rose Wilder Lane. The Hoover Library collection is three linear feet of papers and correspondence between Rose and Laura and provides a glimpse into the creation of the books and the relationship between the mother-daughter writing team.
