On-site Policy/Guidance
Researchers are welcome to visit our research room on the 5th floor of the 威尼斯人娱乐场 building in College Park, Maryland, where you may examine our holdings and related finding aids. To make the most of your visit, we highly recommend searching the 威尼斯人娱乐场 Catalog before you arrive. We also encourage you to consult Still Picture staff in advance about the availability of records and NARA-provided copying equipment, as well as any possible restrictions on the use of your own equipment.
Researchers at the 威尼斯人娱乐场 are expected to follow the 威尼斯人娱乐场 Research Room Rules. Due to the nature of Still Picture Branch holdings, researchers are expected to wear gloves when handling all records served in the research room. Gloves will be provided by 威尼斯人娱乐场 staff.
Records requested from cold storage require an acclimation period. Still Picture Branch staff will be able to provide additional information related to specific requests. If you are interested in records that are known to require an acclimation period, as indicated in the series description in the 威尼斯人娱乐场 Catalog, you are encouraged to contact us in advance of your visit.

Guidance on Equipment
Free-standing electrostatic copiers with a scanning function are available for researcher use. You must provide your own USB 2.0 flash drive to save the scan as a digital file. Alternatively, you may also create black-and-white or color electrostatic copies. Use of these copiers includes a small fee per copy. Researchers must add funds to their Researcher Card account prior to copying, by using the public access computers in the research complex.
The Still Picture Branch also provides courtesy scanners for the reproduction of photographic prints and negatives. Researchers must provide their own laptop and download the necessary software in order to operate the scanners. Use of the scanners depends on availability and is limited to one hour per researcher, which will be enforced as necessary.
You may also use your own camera, with or without copy stands. Stands are available for use in the room with no appointment necessary; however, a two-hour limit will be enforced as needed. The flash function of the camera must be disabled while copying, and copy stand lights should only remain lit for the duration of the exposure. When photographing 19th century prints, the copy stand lights must remain turned off. Light tables are available to use when photographing transparent media.
